Sunspot stopped the fight by slapping Karma, thus breaking her connection with Stevie's mind. However, Karma was still too upset to accept Psyche's apologies. Leaving the others, Dani began to wander around the school, viewing old photographs of the X-Men in their bedrooms, and watering the plants in Storm's attic. She left after an abrupt telepathic message from Professor Xavier to attend the Danger Room for their first training session.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eMeanwhile in London, Moira and Illyana attended a meeting with Gabrielle Haller, the Israeli ambassador about her son. Ms. Haller chain-smoked as she revealed that her son was both autistic and a mutant. Moira suggested that she should seek Professor Xavier's help, but Ms. Haller confessed that she wanted to avoid Xavier as he was the boy's father.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eBack at the mansion the New Mutants all take their turn at crossing the Danger Room. In turn, they each fail and Psyche grew increasingly nervous watching her new friends flunk. When it was Psyche's turn, she ran away. Wolfsbane tracked her in the gardens and Psyche revealed her past problems with her powers alienating her from society and showing her parents their deaths. As the rest of the team left for a trip into town, they were watched by some of Gyrich's henchmen.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003ePsyche remained behind and entered the Danger Room. She used her agility to defeat the robots and safely made it across the room. However, an unknown assailant 'zapped' Psyche in the back of the head knocking her unconscious. Although the Danger Room's jungle trees broke her fall, Psyche was left for dead, lying unconscious on the Danger Room's jungle floor.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIn Salem Centre Mall the other New Mutants left a showing of ET, while Stevie Hunter went to call the school. The New Mutants met a local group of kids who verbally spar with Sunspot, and mistakenly call Wolfsbane \"Rain\". They made friends and went for ice cream together.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eUnknown to them Henry Gyrich had been in meetings with Sebastian Shaw. Together they observed the young mutants socialising and discussed the possibility for activating the Project Wide-Awake, unleashing Sentinels on young teenagers. Meanwhile, Stevie was unable to reach anyone at the school, and was pulled aside by the shadowy figure of Michael Rossi. Stevie recalled his name (and the fact that he was meant to be dead) from conversations with her friend Carol Danvers. He confessed to be undercover and acting in the interest of Xavier's students.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eHowever, back in the ice cream parlour Gyrich's agents attempted to take the New Mutants away. Karma took the lead and they followed the agents to the car park. There Rossi intervened and the kids began to use their powers to stop their assailants. However, they were soon attacked by activated sentinels.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe fight soon spread outside, where Sunspot accidentally pushed a sentinel into the main mall building before he ripped the head off. Cannonball had less luck when the sentinel he was about to attack froze him in mid-flight. Karma used her power to posses Cannonball and re-activate his blast field, which propelled him and the sentinel into the atmosphere. Once the ice had melted, Cannonball returned the sentinel crashing against the floor. The fight ended when Rossi convinced Karma to posses the head agent and force a confession to the local police force.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWhen the team returned to the school they found Psyche unconscious on the de-activated Danger Room floor. She woke and after being told off about using the Danger Room alone by Stevie she explained what had happened, and described the monster that attacked her. She ran through the mansion and found the other New Mutants dead, as if they hadn't survived their individual origins when their own mutant powers activated.\u003cbr\u003eWhen Psyche grabbed at the creature's face, she pulled a mask off revealing a monster bear.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eShe woke screaming. Everyone worried for her health, but the Professor re-assured them that she was perfectly healthy. After they left her, Psyche unsheathed her knife and found it covered in blood. She decided to show the Professor, but instead over-heard him in a telephone conversation with Moira MacTaggert in which he described Psyche as potentially psychotic. The despair from hearing the Professor's opinion of her nearly drove Psyche to plunging the knife into her own body.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIn Scotland Moira slammed the phone down on Xavier, and Banshee consoled her. She admitted that it was partly fueled with her anger at the knowledge of his secret son, and how her own son had grown into a murderous mutant. Banshee went for a stroll and overheard Illyana Rasputin singing a song to the dawn. She informed him that she made a promise to an old friend to always celebrate her birthday. Banshee remembered that it was Kitty Pryde's birthday, and tried to console her saying that the X-Men had returned from the dead before. However, Illyana had been honouring Kitty's demon future self from Limbo, Cat.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003ePsyche went for a swim outdoors in the winter air, the next morning. She wast met at the poolside by Karma, and the two discussed her suspicions about the Professor's behaviour. Cannonball was about to start shaving when he blanked out. Karma had possessed him and written a message with shaving foam on the bathroom mirror to meet them at the boathouse. Outraged he demanded to know why she had possessed him, but the others said it had happened to them too. After Psyche explained what had happened, Cannonball doubted what she had said and went to storm out of the boathouse. However, the terrain outside had become alien.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe New Mutants used the underground tunnels to return to the mansion. However the tunnels became organic, and the Brood Queen snatched Psyche. Wolfsbane led the attack, followed by Cannonball and Sunspot. However the Brood Queen soon disappeared.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003ePsyche was attacked a second time and kidnapped. The Brood Queen cocooned her in the Professor's private study and revealed her plans. She had been using Psyche's mutant abilities, pushing them to their fullest capabilities to create any illusion that the alien desired. Instead of just phantom images, they were real. The Brood Queen planned to inject the New Mutants with eggs and transform them into new Brood. When the others arrived Psyche begged the others to knock her out. Karma's attempt to posses her backfired, and she was possessed by the alien. Cannonball's punch was successful, and once Psyche was unconscious the mansion and it's grounds returned to normal. The Brood Queen vanished again.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe Professor demanded to know what had happened, and after scanning the minds of his students he believed their story of an alien monster. Sunspot later joined Psyche on the porch looking out at the evening air. He then stated that he would continue to teach them if they wished to stay.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMoved by his speech, Psyche spoke for the team saying that they wanted to stay. However, the Professor could see that Karma was distressed and she revealed Stevie's problem with the crank caller. Despite Psyche continuing to challenge him, the Professor agreed that they could help if they approached the situation tactically.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSunspot creates a phone tap and installed it in Stevie's phone. After waiting for hours Stevie received another crank call. The phone tap provided the number and location of the phone booth used to make the calls. Out on the street Wolfsbane choked on the scent of urine in the public phone booth before she followed the caller's scent to the local high school dance.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhile watching outside Wolfsbane detects the fear in a emanating from a student and Stevie realizes that it's her student Peter Bristow. Peter tries to run, and Wolfsbane smashes through the window chasing him causing chaos in the dance. Peter drives away, and the New Mutants give chase. Cannonball manages to save a mother and child from getting hit by Peter's speeding car, managing to safely turn and then set them down with some telepathic coaching from Professor X.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePeter loses control and crashes his car on a site marked 'Danger: Blasting', and a fire ignites. Sunspot discovers a cache of stored explosives inside the build and telepathically informs the Professor who alerts the rest of the team about the need to evacuate. They then locate Peter \u0026amp; Wolfsbane, and Karma possesses Peter to stop him from beating Wolfsbane with a bar. Cannonball then crashes through the building, creating an escape route, and Sunspot held the crumbling roof up long enough for everyone to safely escape.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBack at Stevie's apartment Peter refuses to talk. The Professor admitted that the boy was too frightened to telepathically probe, prompting Psyche to willingly use her powers. At first she showed an image of Peter kissing Stevie, but probing further reveals the image of his parents beating him with a leather belt.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAshamed, Peter lunged at Psyche, but Karma restrained him. However his sweater tore in the scuffle showing the bruises and lacerations on Peter's back. Emotionally broken down, he confessed that he was ashamed of his love for Stevie, but still wanted her to love him back. However, he grew frustrated as she hadn't punished him like his parents had done as a sign of their love. He burst into tears and Stevie embraced the distraught young man.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eXavier telepathically wipes Peter's mind of the New Mutants' secret identities. An ambulance takes Peter away to receive psychiatric care, and the Professor informs everyone that Child Welfare has been called. The show began and the kids enjoyed all the motorcycle stunts. However, just before the last part of the show Team America came under attack. Unable to telepathically contact Professor Xavier, the New Mutants sprang into action. Their secret identities were hidden among the confusion \u0026amp; chaos, but they were driven back by the intervention of the Silver Samurai. Even Team America's \"guardian angel\" the Dark Rider was soon defeated by the Silver Samurai who knocked the Rider unconscious. When he removed the mask he revealed that it was really Psyche. The New Mutants charged him, but were unable to stop the Silver Samurai from teleporting away with Psyche.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhen Psyche woke she was clad in a green cat-suit and faced a deadly assault from giant metallic-spiked wheels. There was a motorbike waiting for her, but without the knowledge to use it the vehicle was soon demolished. Amazingly the giant crushing wheels stopped just before they reached Psyche and she was led away by the Silver Samurai to meet Viper. The Viper demanded to know why the Dark Rider suddenly had no knowledge of motorbikes, but in her fear \u0026amp; anger Psyche accidentally revealed Viper's greatest fear. Enraged, Viper struck Psyche and promised to kill her.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMeanwhile back at Xavier's school Tom Rossi provided information on the Silver Samurai, Viper \u0026amp; Dark Rider. Professor Xavier used Cerebro to confirm his suspicions about Team America. In Washington DC, Viper appeared in Honcho's bedroom and blackmailed him. Team America were to steal a crystal for her in return for Psyche's life. Honcho gathered the rest of Team America to discuss the matter, to which Wolf was gruff and didn't care for the girl's life. The sudden appearance of Professor Xavier surprised Team America, and Wolf's unsympathetic talk enraged Sunspot. The Professor ordered the New Mutants to go outside while he discussed the matter with Team America. Outside the kids were angry and confused, but the Professor's telepathic projection explained that he hoped that Team America would save Psyche, or at least stall Viper long enough for the X-Men to arrive and save the day. In Colorado Xavier confessed to Lilandra that he was having trouble extending his telepathic contact between both the New Mutants in San Francisco \u0026amp; Team America in New Mexico.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn Big Sur, California, Psyche considered her means of escape. Although incapable of doing anything, she remained determined to escape. The Silver Samurai watched her through CCTV and considered how alike she was to the Viper. Viper appeared freshly showered and they discussed how they would kill Psyche, and how the Silver Samurai had been denied his inheritance by Mariko Yashida.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWith Xavier's telepathic aid Team America broke into a fortress which acted as an AIM complex. They remained undetected until the opened the safe and an alarm went off. Under fire, they snatched the crystal and fled. However, the fortress suddenly detonated. Simultaneously a psychic attack crippled both Xavier and Lilandra rendering them both unconscious.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBack at Big Sur the New Mutants were prepared to sneak into the Viper's hideout when a mysterious psychic entity began to call out to Karma. It refused to identify itself, revealing that it wanted to bring about Xavier's destruction and that it would use her to do so. Karma screamed, the psychic entity disappeared and Viper's guards were alerted to their presence. Sunspot threw a truck at the facility's generator knocking out the power. The others charged in, while Psyche's cell wall was demolished. As she made her escape she found Wolfsbane unconscious and bleeding on the floor. The Silver Samurai's powerful katana had slashed at Wolfsbane's body, and he was stood above Psyche, ready to kill them both.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMeanwhile Team America were fleeing AIM's flying assault craft. Wolf had been moved by Sunspot's words earlier and called out to the Dark Rider to posses him. Successfully transformed into the Dark Rider, Wolf soon defeated their pursuers.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Silver Samurai's attack on Psyche \u0026amp; Wolfsbane was foiled by two successive attacks from Cannonball \u0026amp; Sunspot. He teleported out to check on the safety of Viper. Viper had been trying to fight off a psionic possession from Karma, but the Silver Samurai's sudden appearance startled her giving Karma full control. The Samurai defeated Karma by knocking Viper unconscious and teleported her to safety.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTeam America were soon reunited with Professor Xavier, while the New Mutants regrouped. Karma teased Psyche about her \"very becoming\" green outfit, and after blushing Psyche amazed at how quickly Wolfsbane's wounds were healing. Psyche and Karma argued about Karma's agreement with her uncle, but they were interrupted by the Professor's telepathic call. He was angry that they didn't wait for him, but Karma replied that she had tried to contact him and he failed to respond. Although the Professor agreed and was glad that they were safe, Karma was contacted by the mysterious malevolent psychic being. It claimed that it had come for her body \u0026amp; soul. She screamed in terror and the others went to her aid.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFrom outside Viper's facility the Silver Samurai activated a self-destruct which destroyed the whole base. When they reached Professor Xavier and three of his X-Men the conversation continued with little success.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Professor then surprised Sunspot with a visit from his mother. Mrs. DaCosta invited the New Mutants to accompany her on her latest archaeological dig in the Amazon. Sunspot grew angry at the Professor who suggested that they should leave. He wanted to stay and search for Karma, but the other New Mutants convinced him to leave the search for the Professor. Meanwhile the Professor admitted to Colossus, Storm \u0026amp; Nightcrawler that he believed that Karma was alive and in the hands of a malevolent being.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn Rio De Janeiro the New Mutants were invited into the DaCosta family home. However, the butler was a snob and Sunspot's parents began to quarrel at the dinner table. Later Mrs. DaCosta chaperoned the New Mutants during a street carnival and a pretty girl suddenly kissed Cannonball. After some teasing they all went to try on carnival costumes, but the fun soon ended when Mrs. DaCosta was kidnapped by Hellfire Club goons. The kids gave chase but where thwarted by Mr. T look-a-like, Axe. Wolfsbane ran off to track the kidnappers' car and used her psi-link with Psyche to bring the others to her location.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAt night the New Mutants regrouped and planned their attack on the old haunted mansion that Mrs. DaCosta was being held in. Wolfsbane's pained howl combined with psychic nightmares courtesy of Psyche scared the Hellfire Club's hired henchman enough for the girls to knock them out. Cannonball then flew Mrs. DaCosta out of harms way while Sunspot fought Axe. Heavy blows were exchanged until Sunspot stood victorious.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe next day the New Mutants discussed the possibility that there might be other attempts on Mrs. DaCosta's life. They boarded the private jet and began their journey to the Amazon. On the boat Castro poured a bucket of sludge into the water to stir up the piranhas into a feeding frenzy. She temporarily distracted the shoal of carnivorous fish with a nightmare until Cannonball flew across the river, tearing her out of the water, over the boat and crashing into the opposite shore. There a small group of Amazonian native girls briefly attacked them, but Psyche fought them off. However, Cannonball had caught one around the waist and they took her on the boat for questioning. Back on the boat Castro and the captain eased a small revolt about carrying dangerous children. Mrs. DaCosta inspected the Amazonian girl's belongings which originated various countries in South America, and included a modern knife.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMeanwhile back in Rio De Janeiro Emmanuel DaCosta was unimpressed with Castro's report and Sebastian Shaw's offer to join the Inner Circle of the Hellfire Club. They discussed the business plans that Mr. DaCosta had for the Madeira before he invited a group of prostitutes in for some gentlemen's entertainment.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBack on the river the captain pointed out the Madeira mountains that were only a day's journey away. He explained that their route was crucial as the wrong turning down the river would lead to dangerous rapids. Wolfsbane ventured below deck where she caught Castro beating the Amazonian girl. She transformed into a wolf and he ran away in terror. Despite the lack of English communication between them the girls exchanged names as Wolfsbane untied the ropes; the girl called her \"Rain\" and called herself Amara. Wolfsbane then began to sob as she confessed that the terror on Carlos' face reminded her of the fear and hate she had faced in Scotland. When Wolfsbane went back on deck to inform the captain of Carlos' behavior, she found his dead body with an arrow in his back. Carlos then struck her from behind.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhen Wolfsbane regained consciousness she found herself with the New Mutants, Amara and Mrs. DaCosta locked in a cabin. Sunspot broke through the door, but it was too late; Carlos had already murdered the captain and set course for the rapids. The boat plummeted down a waterfall and Cannonball flew Psyche to safety. However, Sunspot was unable to reach his mother and was only saved from drowning by Cannonball. Wolfsbane found a rock to cling on to, and held on to Amara's arm. As the water pulled Amara underwater it washed off her make-up. Instead of a dark tanned black-haired Amazonian native she was a white girl with blonde hair. Amara then gasped out some English to Wolfsbane, who was shocked and angry since it meant that Amara had understood her tearful confessions back in the cabin. Cannonball returned to carry the girls to dry land where Sunspot had to be restrained from running back into the water to find his mother. Psyche's power accidentally triggered and showed them Amara's fear of being sacrificed by the Black Priestess, causing Cannonball to snap at Psyche. Sunspot was still angry from the loss of his mother and destroyed their cell door, but they were soon knocked unconscious again by a shower of curare dipped darts.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAcross town in the Senatorial baths Senator Aquilla and Marcus Domitius Gallio were discussing the fate of the newly captured slaves. Senator Aquilla (Amara's father) stated that the boys were to be tested in the arena and then sold as slaves, and that the girls were to be sold at market as soon as possible. Gallio returned home angry \u0026amp; drunk telling his wife, Selene, that he had heard rumors of the young mutants' powers and intended to use them as his personal army. To ease her husband's troubles heart Selene led him down to the dungeon where she was holding Marcos prisoner. Marcos explained that his employer was an extremely wealthy man who would deal with Marcus Domitius and provide him with weapons. Selene was then ordered to release their new guest.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMeanwhile Wolfsbane and Psyche were enjoying all the luxurious attention in the House of Women. They were bathed, fed and given beautiful clothes. Amara warned not to drink the drugged wine, but they giggled as they became intoxicated. The slaves were instructed to drug them again at breakfast, so Amara attempted to wake the other girls in the night to flee. They refused to move, under the influence of the drugs in the wine so Amara fled on her own. However she experienced a dizzy spell, which she had apparently experienced many times before. She cried as she fell and was captured by Selene.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eUnderneath the circus Cannonball and Sunspot had been stripped and chained to the wall. Like the girls they had been drugged \u0026amp; therefore unable to use their mutant powers to escape. The older slaves taunted them about how they would enjoy being in the arena the next day. When they were forced to fight, the girls were in the audience and too intoxicated to realize what was going on. Although the boys summoned enough strength to use their mutant powers, they soon turned on each other after Cannonball accidentally collided with Sunspot. Wolfsbane was baying for blood until Sunspot caught Cannonball in a choke-hold. She cried out for her love, and transformed into her wolf form. The transformation activated the psionic rapport with Psyche who also snapped out of her intoxicated stupor. She in turn used her power to conjure up a specific image to shock the boys out of their brawl; that of Professor Xavier.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAll four New Mutants were finally conscious and ready to defend themselves. The crowd accused them of being the Black Priestess' demons and the archers were ready to fire. Her thoughts were interrupted by a passing police car and she plucked up the courage to walk up the mansion's driveway.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMeanwhile, the New Mutants were training underneath the mansion. Down in the Danger Room, Cannonball, Magma, and Sunspot were destroying a series of robotic foes. Sunspot smashed them, Cannonball flew through them, and Magma melted them. As one robot dropped Magma, Cannonball caught her in mid-air. Magik and Psyche watched from the observation room, and secretly discussed Cannonball's obvious unrequited crush on Magma and how it must have been difficult for her to adjust to twentieth century life. While Lockheed played in Magik's hair, the girls discussed recent events in Massachusetts. Psyche kept secret her recurring nightmares of the demonic bear, but they were interrupted by the doorbell. Magik went to the door, shooing Lockheed out of sight. There, Rachel was shocked as she was greeted by Magik. Although Magik asked if she could take a message, Rachel merely asked her what her name was. Rachel was obviously shocked to discover that she really was Magik. She couldn't understand how Colossus' little sister could be so old, and ran away without revealing her own identity.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAcross the galaxy, a strange metallic being regained consciousness on a barren planet. He considered how much time he had, but was interrupted by the growing light of a nearby sun. The blinding light grew to reveal another metallic entity, much larger than himself. The larger being announced to his son that he would make his death quick and painless. However, the younger alien soon fled into the depths of space. His father merely smiled as he relished in his hunt.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBack on Earth, Psyche used a bow an arrow to defeat a bear in the snow. Magik turned off the Danger Room's simulated environment leaving Psyche slouched against the wall. Magik quizzed her friend about why all her Danger Room sessions of the last week had been against bears, but she redirected the conversation and they both headed back upstairs. In the dark gloom of the Danger Room, a mysterious fanged creature began to growl.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eLater, Psyche changed into her civilian clothes and looked out of the window into the snowy night. She thought about telling her friends, and then considered how she had lost her entire family. She confronted herself in the mirror and decorated herself in war paint. Armed with a bow and arrows she stepped out into the snow and demanded the bear that had been stalking her mind to show itself.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn the snow storm, the Demon Bear towered above Psyche. She summoned an image of it's worst fear and was surprised to see an image of herself. The beast swiped at the illusion, and she fired a killing shot to it's neck. However, the bear merely swatted her bow away and picked her up in it's gigantic paws. Face to face with the creature, Psyche drove an arrow through the Demon Bear's upper jaw and through the bridge of it's nose. The pain caused the bear to drop her, and quickly Psyche found her bow again. She fired another arrow into the it's mouth, and the Demon Bear collapsed on the snow covered floor. Relieved that she had finally killed the monster that had murdered her parents, Psyche approached the dead bear. However, when she was close it opened it's eyes and attacked.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eInside the mansion, Wolfsbane woke screaming for Cannonball and the others. Although she had been sleeping in her human state, her psychic link with Psyche had connected and she sense her friend's pain. Transforming into a wolf she led the others through the snow. Magik had moved slightly backwards through time, so they observed the events back in New York. Lockheed arrived in the hanger bay, soon followed by the New Mutants. The X-Men destroyed the wall to escape the Morlock tunnels. Shadowcat was virtually transparent, Nightcrawler was unconscious, all of them had damaged clothing, and they were accompanied by various Morlocks (see Uncanny X-Men #211). As they stumbled into the hanger bay, Magik teleported them back to the school. Quick explanations were exchanged about the Marauders' attack on the Morlocks, and they could only pray for more survivors.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe underground complex became a make-shift emergency room. Sunspot bent metal beams into bed frames, Cannonball flew around carrying supplies, while Magma welded metal joints. As Sunspot carried a life-support module, his solar-powered strength began to wane. Colossus caught the module, but Magneto berated Sunspot for being careless and ordered him to stay out of the way. At that moment, Sunder began to throw a fit and even Magneto couldn't restrain him with metallic floor tiles. Karma struggled to keep Sunder under control, and collapsed in Psylocke's arms as the telepath took over. Psylocke comforted Karma, but Magneto was more concerned about the strain on Psylocke. Karma struggled to cope as the death and vast amount of injuries reminded her of life in war-torn Vietnam. Mirage, however, couldn't cope at all. Her Valkyrie gift to foresee death left her huddled in a corner. Everywhere she looked there were more images of death. She had lost all hope for the Morlocks and New Mutants when Cannonball found her and comforted her.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eUpstairs in the kitchen Wolfsbane was making sandwiches for everyone. Sunspot entered in a rage after the way Magneto had treated him. When he went to take a sandwich, Wolfsbane slapped his wrist as it was for the patients downstairs. Already angry, he lost his patience and powered up and kicked the table across the room. All the sandwiches were ruined, so Wolfsbane transformed into an angry werewolf triggering her psychic link with Mirage. She and Cannonball raced upstairs to stop them from fighting. They agreed to help clear up \u0026amp; start make more sandwiches after a quick lecture on responsibility.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOutside, Warlock sat keeping a watch out for something on the porch. Cypher was concerned, but Warlock assured him that he was keeping an eye out for any more Marauders.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eUp in the Head Master's study, Karma desperately tried to call home, but neither Leong nor Nga were answering the telephone. Magik appeared out of nowhere, swearing. She had tried to teleport Shadowcat to Limbo, but she had phased so much that Magik was unable to latch on to her. Since her magic wouldn't work on Earth, she was left powerless to help her best friend. Karma sympathised since she was worried about Leong \u0026amp; Nga. Magik decided to teleport them both across town when Cypher \u0026amp; Warlock arrived in time to see them leave. The boys raced into the kitchen to warn the other New Mutants. Mirage was concerned that the death images might have been for Karma \u0026amp; Magik.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAcross town, the girls arrived inside Karma's apartment. It was dark \u0026amp; empty, but when Karma flicked the lightswitch a bomb exploded destroying the apartment.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBack in the school, the other New Mutants were debating what to do. They were under direct orders not to leave the mansion, but they also wanted to make sure their friends were safe. They realised that Magik should have teleported back immediately if something was wrong. However, Sunspot kept chiding Cypher, almost causing another fight which Cannonball threatened to straighten out. They voted on the matter and soon Magma had burned a hole out into one of the underground tunnels beneath Manhattan. Warlock then transformed into a car for them all, which seemed strange as flying to Manhattan would have been quicker. Warlock claimed his strange behaviour was an attempt to replicate the strange behaviour of regular humans during such a stressful time, but none of them seemed to believe him. As they raced away from the school, Magus appeared and planned when to strike.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAcross town Sunspot broke open a manhole cover and they climbed out on to the street. He was frustrated that he couldn't punch any Marauders in the same way. Magma quoted Julius Caesar to try and make sense out of the carnage. Wolfsbane huddled by an old dumpster with Cypher \u0026amp; Warlock trying to comfort her. However, when they moved around the corner they found the emergency services trying to put out a fire where karma's home had been. Mirage took her anger out on Warlock, claiming that if he had flown them there, then they might have arrived in time to help. Suddenly, Magik \u0026amp; Karma appeared behind them. Magik had teleported them both out in time, but Karma had sustained more injuries.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eJust as they began to think about Leong \u0026amp; Nga's whereabouts, and the possibility that it was a Marauder attack, Warlock's sensors began to react. He looked panic stricken and suddenly grabbed the entire team. He fled down into the tunnels, but then transformed into a tank. The New Mutants couldn't understand what was going on until Mirage remembered the night when Warlock arrived and explained that he was running from his father (see New Mutants #21).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMirage was correct. Mirage's valkyrie ability to see the death glow indicated that there was someone trapped underneath the rubble. Sunspot lifted up a huge segment of wall, but was suddenly attacked by Sabretooth who had been trapped underneath. Cannonball's quick thinking and blasting power pushed Sabretooth away. He fell weak agains tthe floor and introduced himself. Sabretooth's voice faded away and Warlock pronounced that he had died, but Mirage wasn't so sure since she didn't see Death come to collect him. However, the others reminded her that her valkyrie powers had been acting up and she admitted that she still had an intense headache.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSuddenly the Inner Circle of the Hellfire Club arrived. Although they were hovering several feet above the New Mutants, Sunspot picked up a large metallic pillar from the remains and hurled it at Magneto while pronouncing that they would no longer listen to him. Magneto easily swept the debris aside in mid air, and Sebastian Shaw descended to the ground to tackle Sunspot one-on-one. He knocked Sunspot backwards. Cannonball flew at Shaw, but flew into a metal wall that Magneto constructed. Selene stood over Cannonball's collapsed body, but instead of draining his life-force her own body became withered and grey. It was a physical manifestation of her greatest fear courtesy of Mirage's mutant power, but the White Queen telepathically attacked her. Being a creature of living circuitry, Warlock was immune to the White Queen's powers and shocked her with a fierce alien shape.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe fight between the New Mutants and the Inner Circle came to an end when Magneto wrapped them up in a giant metallic ball constructed from the remains of the school. He demanded to know who the little girl was, and where Magik had got to. When Illyana spoke in Russian he immediately realised who she was and was outraged. The New Mutants did their best to explain how the Darkchilde had sacrificed herself (see New Mutants #73) and that they intended to leave Magneto's school. They confronted him with the knowledge that he had been talking with N'astirh during the Infero and had over-heard other things (such as the power inhibitors he authorised in New Mutants #67).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eShaw seized upon the opportunity. He declared that without any students, Magneto had nothing and should therefore be cast out of the Hellfire Club.He struck Magneto and started another fight (see the previous issue). Mangeto fell backwards, but sent a hail of metallic debris flying at Shaw. Shaw lifted the ground from under Magneto's feet, but the Master of Magnetism flew out of harms way. He then made the floor curl into a long club and rammed Shaw with it. All the while Magneto ranted about how he recognised that he could not teach the New Mutants in the same methods that Charles Xavier had established. From trapped inside their metallic bubble the New Mutants suddenly understood that why Magneto's attitude towards them had changed so drastically; the he was grooming them to be his personal army. He did not require their love, he just wished to keep them from any foolish heroics that would possibly kill them, as had happened with the X-Men in Dallas. The New Mutants were convinced not to trust Magneto any more.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe fight between Shaw and Magneto raged on. Shaw continued to absorb the kinetic energy and would break free from any metallic prison that Magneto would wrap around him. Shaw considered all mutant teams such as Alpha Flight, Marauders, X-Men and even the Gonshan mutates as major investments to make. Magneto raged that the mutates of genosha would rise up and overthrown their human masters. He wanted mutants to fight other mutants to winnow out the foolish heroics. He was more concerned with battling the legends of martyrs like the X-Men, and taunted Shaw that he wasn't a legend.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHowever, Shaw had secretly placed a device in his suit to reverse the magnetic polarity in the area, sending Magneto flying backwards through the air. He landed near the New Mutants' metallic prison, and Warlock considered breaking out to help his former headmaster. Cannonball reminded him that after everything they'd heard, Magneto was as dangerous and villainous as the rest of the Hellfire Club. As Shaw stood over Magneto, Magneto declared that it was time to recruit a new army. With that, he buried them both in a barrage of metal. At first Selene thought he'd killed himself and Shaw, but moments later the debris cleared away and Magneto emerged carrying Shaw's unconscious body. He had over-loaded Sebastian Shaw's ability to absorb energy.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eShaw was tossed on the floor, from where he declared that Magneto should be expelled from the Hellfire Club. Naturally Magneto claimed that it should be Shaw who should be removed. When asked for her vote, the White Queen recalled the Nimrod that had killed Leland \u0026amp; Von Roehm and that such a machine had obviously been connected with the Sentinel programme that Shaw had invested in. Therefore Selene voted against Sebastian Shaw, while continuing to plot against the White Queen. Sebastian Shaw stormed away from the site of Xavier's School for the Gifted. Magneto then dictated that there would not be another Black King to replace Shaw. Instead he would merge the positions of White \u0026amp; Black King to become the first Grey King of the Hellfire Club.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMagneto then turned his attention back to the New Mutants. Still trapped inside the metal sphere they rejected his leadership. Magneto lifted his hand and used his power on the metal cage. To their surprise, he let them go free. Therefore Rictor gives her the lump of rock from Odin's destroyed tower he picked up. Just as Rictor and Wolfsbane are growing closer, they are interrupted by the sudden appearance of Moira MacTaggert. Cold and fierce, Moira sees that Wolfsbane was already packed and demands that they leave immediately.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDown a New York alleyway, Cable, Pyro, and Blob exchange blows. Blob holds Cable's arms while Pyro punches him in the face. Cable forces his head backwards, shattering Blob's teeth and kicks Pyro in the jaw. Cannonball decides that Freedom Force has already attacked first and they charge into battle. Sunspot knocks Pyro down, but Blob forces him and Cannonball off their feet. Crimson Commando appears and announces that he was arresting them for interfering with the arrest of an internationally wanted criminal.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBack inside Ship, Wolfsbane begs Moira to let her stay long enough to bid goodbye to X-Factor and the other New Mutants. He uses his powers to vibrate the helicopter to pieces. Moira is enraged.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDown in the alley way, Sunspot knocks Crimson Commando to the floor. From down there, he grabs Boom-Boom's ankle causing her trip. Wolfsbane's present goes flying through the air, but Cable manages to catch it safely with his mechanical hand. He then deflected a shot from Crimson Commando before knocking him out. Cable orders Cannonball to activate his blast field in time to deflect Silver Sable's attack. Cable then orders Sunspot to rip the concrete from beneath Blob's feet, causing Blob to fall backwards. Blob claims he knows nothing about Rusty and Skid's disappearance. He talks about training the children to become an army to fight terrorists. Cannonball states that Boom-Boom's jealousy is unnecessary. He filched the key to their shackles from the Dragoness while she was focusing on kissing Cannonball. Sunfire is impressed by Cable's tutelage.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOutside, Cable and Wolverine continue their battle. Knowing that something needs to be done before someone gets killed, Rictor vibes a water tower's contents onto the men, very effectually ending the fight. Wolverine explains that the fight wasn't too serious, although the reasons why the men sparred were serious enough. One day, he and Cable will get to finish their fight. For now, they must figure out what Stryfe is up to.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCurrently, Stryfe has learned that Dragoness has allowed the New Mutants to escape by some foolishness. He sends the dispensable, human guards to take care of the New Mutants while he takes his mutant team to disperse the Sleet. Cannonball's squad sees the human guards and has to suppress Sunfire's urge to flay them in a blaze of death. Boom-Boom seconds Cannonball's plan and states that they need subtly if they want to find the Sleet. Sunfire relents and the guards get taken out by surprise. Sunfire keeps one guard conscious and has the man lead the mutants to the drug. They enter the warehouse where the Sleet is stored as Wolverine and Cable bust in through a skylight.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAs the New Mutants regroup, Stryfe and his forces enter. A battle ensues. Warlock and Sunspot take out Sumo with a trampoline\/slingshot approach. Cannonball knocks Kamikaze out of commission. Rictor notices Sunfire being cautious with the Dragoness so he vibes her from flight. Too late does he realize that Sunfire was being cautious because not only does the warehouse hold the Sleet but because it also houses tons of explosives. The New Mutants flee as the whole warehouse goes up in a glorious explosion that destroys all the Sleet, as well as the supposed MLF members. They care little for their predicament, only that Warlock seems to be dying. During transport, Warlock hadn't been put back together properly. His life-force was depleted. Instead of letting him die, the young mutants offer their own life-force to sustain him. Warlock is moved but warns the teens about contracting the transmode virus that potentially had killed Doug Ramsey. Before the transfer can take place, Cameron Hodge phases through the walls and announces that he will be the one infected by the transmode virus. Being immortal, his head is stuck to the hideous body his bioengineers constructed for him. The transmode virus will allow Hodge to alter his form as he sees fit. The young mutants attempt to protect each other, but Hodge leaves with Warlock.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn the lab of Genosha's Genegineer, a young man is about to be assimilated into a mutate. Hodge barges in and demands that the young mutants be made mutates. The Genegineer does not understand the use of Warlock. Hodge lays Warlock aside and begins telling of the uses Warlock will be. Across the cell, Rictor recalls for Wolfsbane how Hodge had captured and tortured him once before. Just then, Warlock arrives and alerts the young mutants of Hodge's plan to turn them into mutates. Using the last of his energy, Warlock shorts out the cell door and the mutants escape. Warlock can't move and he can't be carried, so the young mutants leave him in hopes of finding help in time. Within seconds, however, Hodge is alerted by Havok that the mutants have escaped. The Genoshans go in pursuit.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn New York, X-Factor arrives and Cable vents his anger at Storm for having fused the hatch shut. Cyclops views the hatch an thinks the fusion looks like his brother's signature, but Havok has been missing for a while. Once again in the Citadel, she hears the screams of Warlock. She attacks. She manages to somehow disrupt the transfer of Warlock's transmode virus to Hodge. This slight disruption is enough to doom Hodge to his hideous body, but also enough to kill Warlock. Jean telekinetically transports the quiet team to the Citadel while Archangel explains to Cannonball the corruptness of the Genoshan government and how it's not unlikely that they would have manipulated Havok into becoming a magistrate.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn the Citadel, Havok and Chief Magistrate Anderson explain to Hodge that the X-Teams are difficult to find. There must be an inhibitor in place made by Forge. Hodge is upset, but he quickly turns to Wolfsbane, as she is next to be changed into a mutate. Hodge wants the Genegineer to make it so that in some dark recess of Wolfsbane's mind that she'll know that all her pain was caused by Hodge. The Genegineer states that this is a dangerous request, but Hodge insists. Havok secretly contemplates how his confrontation with Cyclops rattled him.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRealizing their hunger, the young, on-the-run mutants have the mutate find an empty apartment that they can forage through. After only a few minutes, a magistrate barges in. It's his apartment, but that doesn't stop Rictor from subduing the man. At that moment, an announcement is broadcast on television from Wolfsbane. She states that she has offered her services to Genosha and begs her comrades to do the same. Rictor is enraged and wants to charge the Citadel on his own. Boom-Boom stops him the the young mutants decide to go together with the mutate as their guide (he noticing his programming growing weaker with prolonged contact to the young mutants).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAt the Citadel, Jean and the \"quiet\" mutants land and begin setting charges. A magistrate comes upon the group but gets taken out by one of Gambit's hurled bomb casings. The magistrate falls and makes an incredible commotion. He lands right in front of the young mutants, having arrived in the Citadel via the sewers that Rictor had fled through earlier. Being in the Citadel, the mutate can no longer deny his programming and he darts away. Because of the noise of the fallen magistrate, Hodge and troops arrive to attack the \"quiet\" mutants. Jubilee wants to rush out and help, but she is held back by Rictor. Despite the mutants performing well against the magistrates, Hodge orders Wipeout to steal the powers of everyone in the fight. Hodge thinks he hears whispering, but the mutate simply reappears and lies about his own noises. (This marks the first instance in which a mutate lies to a superior and shows any modicum of will.) Boom-Boom and Rictor are pleased at having held Jubilee back, as she still has her powers. However, they see Wolfsbane come from the shadows. both the Vrakanin and Warlock reeled in pain.  The Vrakanin's armour exploded and the creature fell frm the rigging.  Cannonball also fell, and held on to the wooden rigging as Magma failed to pull him up.  As he dangled, Lila created a light-show that made the Vrakanin explode in mid-air.  Her light continued to grow in intensity until she, the band, and Cannonball all disappeared.  The crowd went wild, but the New Mutants were more concerned about Warlock's pain and Cannonball's kidnapping.  Warlock was able to drain the excess energy into the stargate that Lila had used, and triggered a second teleport.  However, after the bright light dissipated, the New Mutants were left floating in empty space.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAfter Lila's party teleported to her home, she gave Cannonball a kiss and fobbed him off with stories about how she couldn't quite teleport the whole group along too.  She was extremely impressed at how Cannonball instantly realised that  her home was in a gigantic Dyson Sphere in space, something he'd picked up from reading science fiction novels.  She hugged him and nibbled on his ear before telling the rest of her group to change Cannonball into something 'more appropriate'.  Once Cannonball was gone Lila took a message from Charasulla, a Vrakanin leader.  She promised that the sale of Earth would continue as planned.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn space, Psyche awoke with sudden alarm.  She saw the other New Mutants in a web of stasis pods, and heard Warlock's voice; he had transformed himself into a miniature spaceship to save his team-mates.  He informed Psyche that Lila's stargate had reacted to them at the very last moment.  They suspected that it was a tactic to prevent anyone from following her home.  Meanwhile back in the Dyson Sphere, Cannonball felt embarrassed wearing a black leather outfit with chains and stusd attached.  However, his shame was short-lived as she began to seduce him.  However, Lila's drummer Phil Hovannes opened communication with Charasulla to undercut Lila's deal to steal \u0026amp; sell the Earth.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eElsewhere on the Dyson sphere the New Mutants had landed.  Cypher attempted to translate the alien language, but they soon came under attack from Vrakanins on sky-sleds.  Wolfsbane caught Psyche after her legs gave way on her, but they soon fell off the ledge.  Warlock managed to catch the girls, but then all three of them were snagged by a Vrakanin electro-net.  Sunspot was lost as he was unable to steer his stolen sky-sled while Cypher,  Magma \u0026amp; Magik managed to escape unseen.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWarlock, Wolfsbane and Psyche were chained and thrown on their knees in front of Charasulla.  There they saw Cannonball, also chained, and still wearing the black leather rockstar outfit.  Hovannes taunted Lila, but soon received his payment; instant disintergration.  Charasulla went to active the Dyson sphere's teleportation devide to relocate the Earth, but the ground began to shake.  Since there were no tectonic plates on a Dyson sphere, Cannonball wasn't surprised by the volcanic arrival of Magma.  Magik's Soulsword wouldn't harm any living beings, but it scared the Vrakanin soldier long enough for Cypher to tackle him off his feet.  Magik then used a blaster to free Cannonball from his shackles, teasing him about his cute outfit at the same time.  Cannonball then attacked the Vrakanins while Magik freed the others.  Their attack continued with Sunspot's explosive arrival, but they were too late.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMagma's eruption had melted the teleportation controls, so instead of teleporting the Earth to the Dyson sphere it would be completely disintegrated.  Magik considered who she could save back on Earth, but knew that they would have no real life to speak of in Limbo.  Meanwhile, as the light grew increasingly blinding Cypher translated enough of the alien language to disable the teleportation sequence.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe New Mutants demanded an explanation, and Lila admitted that she was an inter-galactic rockstar and thief.  She had intended to steal the Earth and selll everyone on it into slavery.  She promised to leave the Earth alone as she had, technically, been successful if it hadn't been for Hovannes' double-cross.  Lila then used her own mutant power to teleport them all back to her home in London.  As she was only able to teleport across galactic distances, she found it easier to home in on the places she called home.  This meant that the New Mutants had to use the telephone to call the Professor to ask for money \u0026amp; The Warriors Three paid him a visit, and he succeeded in Volstagg's challenge to lift him (although he sprained his back in doing so). The king of the dwarves was grateful that Cannonball had saved his wife, while his daughter nursed him to health. Suddenly they came under attack by the Dark Elves, and by Magma in particular. She had been transformed into a short elf made of molten lava. Cannonball managed to defeat Magma, but sustained more injuries. Eitri's dwarves managed to cast their own spells on Magma to restore her mind.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMirage flew through the air on her Pegasus, Brightwind. Mist's sisters debated the suitability of Mirage's presence. He used a golden cloak of feathers to disguise her as a falcon as he descended into Eitri's kingdom. There he threatened to kill Cannonball for being an intruder. As payment for sparing Cannonball's life he demanded that Eitri forge him a hammer to rival Thor's Mjolnir.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eKarma finally reached cool grasslands. When the New Mutants had been scattered, she had been thrown backwards through time as well as in space. By the time she reached the end of the desert she had lost all of her excess fat. There she was reunited with Warlock \u0026amp; Cypher, but the girl who had been her companion across the desert mysteriously disappeared. Instead, a white piece of string appeared on her finger as a gift from the Norns.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Darkchild and her riders appeared ready to claim Cypher, Karma \u0026amp; Warlock. Karma prepared to use her sword, while Warlock became a giant robotic power suit for Cypher to fight within. Cannonball and Magma joined the fight, soon followed by Mirage on her Pegasus.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Enchantress watched the fight through a magical mirror in her fortress. When Karma attempted to posses the Darkchild she caused psionic feedback that destroyed the mirror. Without any means of communication, the Enchantress had been forced to wait for the Darkchild to return. When she did, the rest of the New Mutants were with her. However, they sprung their ambush and soon defeated the Enchantress' guards.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eKarma held her possession over the Darkchild and forced her down the spiral-staircase to the dungeons. There she found Magik; battered and bloodied. Magik's body was soon restored to health when the Darkchild merged back inside of her. Wildside distorts reality and makes the team invisible to the guards. The guards have no choice but to trust their sensors. Firing blindly, Forearm gets hit and he asks Tempo to affect time in their favor. Unfortunately, the bomb the group brought has been damaged so Thumbalina shrinks and enters the bomb in order to fix it. The bomb fixed, the MLF teleports away, via their teammate Zero. Seconds before the bomb detonates, Cable charges through the hole in the wall and questions a fallen guard about the MLF. Not much is said before the bomb explodes.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn Asgard, the New Mutants are assembled with the Norse gods to celebrate a recent victory over the Death Goddess. Due to the Rainbow Bridge being broken, the gods are joyful at having such powerful allies remain in Asgard. The New Mutants, however, have their reservations. They have friends and responsibilities back home. An ice fairy interrupts the party and offers Karnilla a vial that enables her people who had been recently turned to stone to revive and walk again. And, for the New Mutants, the fairy offers a map of the interdemensional eddies that surround Asgard. The map could lead them home. The jubilation that comes from this announcement is dampened by Dani's determination to stay in Asgard and help the Valkyrie fix what Hela damaged.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBack on Earth, Rusty and Skids have been made the prisoners of Freedom Force. The two lie in the hospital wing after being beaten by Freedom force while attempting to stop Nitro and the Vulture from killing people. The news shows Skids that Freedom Force is framing her and Rusty for Nitro's release from jail. The two young mutants are labelled as evil. Then, the news reports on the MLF actions from Wyoming. It seems that Rusty and Skids are the next targets for the MLF. The MLF calls for the release of the two, or else they'll come and take them. Mystique asks Skids what she knows about the MLF, but Skids knows nothing. She only knows that what Freedom Force is doing is not fair.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAs the New Mutants prepare to leave Asgard, Cannonball tries one last time to get Dani to come back to Earth with the team. She can't do it. She's honor-bound to stay on Asgard. With no other option, the New Mutants leave Asgard in a Warlock ship and head towards a whirlpool that leads them down their interdimensional voyage. At first, the trip is peaceful, as the team sees spectacular views. As they enter the realm of the Mindless Ones, though, they are attacked by odd creatures. They escape through a portal and Rictor wonders if going back home will mean their lives become less interesting.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMeanwhile, the MLF leader is unveiled: Stryfe. He orders his troops to bust Rusty and Skids out of the Freedom Force hold, but he holds Wildside and Thumbalina behind. The team assaults the compound while Cable watches and schemes in the shadows. Tempo twists time to put the odds in their favor. The MLF reaches a computer console and begin looking for the holding cell of Rusty and Skids. Cable pops out and shoots Tempo. Reaper hits Cable with his paralyzing scythe, but Cable is still able to get one last wallop in to take Reaper out. Strobe then melts Cable's mechanical arm. While he lies helpless, the MLF burns through the floor to get to Rusty and Skids. Seeing the mutant attack, the guards shoot a confused and drugged Rusty. Strobe talks Skids into fleeing with the MLF. Skids agrees, knowing she and Rusty will be killed if they stay.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eArriving home, the New Mutants don't see the X-Factor ship. They figure they are the last one's with Xavier's dream fresh in their minds. As they wait, however, the X-Factor ships appears and seems to be falling from the sky. The team rushes off to help.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBack at Freedom Force's holding cells, Cable is looked over by a doctor. His prosthesis are curious, though Cable acts as if they are run of the mill. As the doctors leave, Cable admits to himself that the MLF is too powerful and well-financed for just himself.
