The man with the sign reading 'The End is Nigh' patrols the cemetery where Blake is being buried.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThings flash back to when the picture in The Comedian's closet was taken. The Minutemen gathered for a publicity picture. The team goes decides to go back the 'The Owl's Nest' for a beer. Sally says she needs to change first and she'll catch up with them later. As she starts to undress, Blake shows up.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eHe thinks she wanted him there, but she forces him away and scratches his face. This causes Blake to go nuts and beat the crap out of her. As he undoes his pants, Hooded Justice (a fellow costume) shows up. Justice pummels Blake and forces him to leave. Blake questions Justice's sexual preference and leaves.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eLaurie and Sally argue about Laurie's relationship with Jon when the story returns to the cemetery.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAdrian Veidt is at the funeral, and remembers the first official meeting of the 'Crimebusters'. This was the second generation of costumes consisting of Veidt, Jon, Blake, Rorschach, Captain Metropolis, Dan, Laurie, and Janey Slater. Blake says that the group is a joke, and a waste of time. Rorschach says the team is too big and unwieldy. Veidt thinks the team just needs to be better organized to which Blake states that Veidt is that smartest man in the world and he should figure it out.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eVeidt says intelligence is all they need to overcome their obstacles. Blake says they're wasting time, and burns down Captain Metropolis's display.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eEveryone leaves with Metropolis pleading for them to stay. He says \"Somebody has to save the world, don't you see?\" Veidt looks at what is left of the display.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eNow Manhattan remembers his encounter with the Comedian in Vietnam. Blake talks about how messed up the world would be if Manhattan hadn't have crushed the Vietcong, winning the Vietnam War.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eA pregnant woman approaches Blake, saying it's his and he must stay with her. He says he is leaving and won't see her again. She busts a bottle and slices his face open, to which he pulls out his gun and kills her. Manhattan states the woman was pregnant. Blake says the Jon could have turned the bullet into a bottle of snowflakes or teleported him away, but he didn't. He says Jon doesn't care about humans or anything else.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eBack at the cemetery, Dan remembers clearing the streets with Blake. The streets have filled with rioters against vigilantes. Blake uses riot gas to disperse the mob. It is here that Dan begins to despise Blake as a human being.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eNow a man named Edgar Jacobi a.k.a. Moloch enters his home. As he goes to get something from his refrigerator, Rorschach bursts out of it. Rorschach knows that Moloch used to be a villain and questions whether Moloch killed Blake. Edgar says that The Comedian came into his house a week before he died.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe panels then show Blake drunk and upset. Going on and on about this new Joke, a big Gag that someone was planning. Blake saw a list of people that were being used in the Joke: Janey Slater, Moloch, Dr. Manhattan. He says this island has writers, scientists, and artists on it for the big Joke.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eRorschach says Moloch's story is probably true and finds medicine that has been banned. Moloch says its for his terminal cancer.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eRorschach's journal is narrated. Talks about prostitutes, Moloch's story, and ponders the 'island' Moloch was talking about. He talks about how everything is connected, and people can see things if they just look. The man with the ‘The End is Nigh’ sign appears. The vendor tries to make small talk, but the man says the world will end today. The man with the sign asks for a copy of the New Frontiersman and asks if the vendor will keep the paper for him tomorrow.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eJon is making love to Laurie, and when he duplicates himself Laurie panics and screams. She says she’s fine, she just needs a cigarette. As she leaves the bedroom, she sees another copy of Jon doing work in the other room. This angers Laurie because he wasn’t focusing solely on her. She storms off to Dan’s house.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eJanet Slater gives a smoke filled report on Dr. Manhattan and his unemotional ways. She goes on to say that tonight she will tell the whole world what he did to her.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDan is surprised to see Laurie, but it is a nice surprise. He makes her some coffee and Laurie bursts into tears, talking about how detached and sad her relationship with Jon has gotten. Dan says he’s going over to Hollis’s house and she should come. She agrees to go, and the two are on there way to Hollis’s.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eJon is going on television for an interview. Press people tell him not to answer or take a stand on certain topics. Once the interview goes to people in the crowd, a man accuses Manhattan of causing cancer in 3 different people, and that Manhattan is harmful and dangerous. Everyone starts questioning Jon about the accusations until he teleports them all away.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOn Dan and Laurie’s trip to Hollis’s, a gang of thugs tries to mug them. Laurie and Dan pummel all of the punks. Laurie decides to go home afterwards and Dan continues to Hollis’s house.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eJon returns home to find a soldier painting ‘Danger Quarantine Area’ on the door to his bed. Jon says he’s tired of all this going to Arizona first, then to Mars. Jon disappears and then reappears in Arizona at an old testing facility. He takes a picture of him and a woman off of a bulletin board.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe next day, the man with the sign returns to the newspaper vendor. The vendor says the world didn’t end yesterday, to which the sign man says ‘Are you sure?’ (referring to Manhattan leaving the planet)\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eLaurie gets home in time to find U.S. military personal containing all of her belongings. She has to take a cancer scan and is shocked to learn Jon has left.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDan is woke up by Rorschach. Rorschach shows him the papers headline “Dr. Manhattan Leaves Earth” and counties to point out that two ex-costumes have gone in the past week. He sees them as connected, but not sure how.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe news paper vendor tells the young boy to go home and not worry about paying for “The Black Freighter” after he opens up the paper. The headline reads “Russians Invade Afghanistan.”\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe President and his advisors are shown the possible outcome of starting a nuclear war with Russia. The results would cost America Boston, New York, Baltimore, and Washington.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDr. Manhattan walks along Mars until he finds a good rock to rest on. His father enters the room and decides that he doesn’t want his son to take up a dying trade, and wants him to going into nuclear science, specifically bombs. He dumps the watch pieces off a fire escape.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eHe then goes onto for a science company. As he is being shown around, he runs into Janey Slater. The talk for a bit and she buys him a drink. He then flashes to days at the carnival with Janey, making love to her, repairing watches, and the experiment that made him Dr. Manhattan. He got locked into a test vault that separates objects from their intrinsic fields. The door has a safety feature that couldn’t get him out or stop the process. A couple of months later, weird ghost like images start to appear in the laboratories. One day, a full-fledged boy appeared. Jon was now Dr. Manhattan.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eTime goes on and the government uses Manhattan as a weapon to crush any adversary they face. He meets different costumes at various times but never really establishes a relationship.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eManhattan tired to go back to his life with Janey but eventually it failed. The stress of his new powers along with his unemotional ways caused him to get with Laurie, the Silk Spectre.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eHe remembers being with The Comedian in Vietnam, and all the killing and violence that went on there. He remembers the lives he took there.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eHe then goes to see his friend Adrian Veidt in his Artic establishment. From there he recalls the Keene Act of ’77, and who got to stay masked and who was forced to retire. Rorschach did not retire. The next two pages flash a panel of most of the important moments of his life.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe story returns to the present, with Dr. Manhattan floating above the surface of Mars. From nothing arises a great castle made from his mind. Rorscrach coundn't find any information on him so he leaves.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eElsewhere, there is chaos is going on about this war world three that is about to start rumor is driving everyone crazy. While Nite owl and Silk Spectre are eating at an diner, Nite owl offers Silk an place to stay while Silk has no place to go because Dr. Manhattan left earth and went to mars.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOzymandias is on his way to an meeting where an mug shot his assistant. And Ozymandias beats up the mugger and when he was done, Ozymandias wanted to know who sent him. Then the mugger took an poison and the mugger died without Ozymandias not knowing who sent the mugger to kill him.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAnd when Rorscrach got an note from Monoch that he will tell him everything, Rorscrach finds Monoch shot in the head, and it turned out that Rorscrach was set up and the police got him surrounded. Rorscrach tries to escape by setting the police men on fire and set the stairs on fire and tries to make an break for it by jumping out of the window. Afterwards they try to make love, unfortunately to no avail. During the night we are Privey to a dream that Dan is having where it is revealed that his impotence is caused by a sense of helplessness, due to the chaos around him.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhen Laurie finds him naked in the \"Owl Cave\" they decide to take the ship out and be vigilanties again. They manage to save a lot of people from a tenemant fire. Giving us even more insight into the identity of Laurie Jupiter. Nite-Owl reluctantly agrees, although the idea is evil, it is the only way to bring peace.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRorschach, seeing morals as only black and white, refuses and storms out to inform the world of the plan. Doctor Manhattan realizes this is truth as well, so he confronts Rorshach and ultimately annihilates him outside the Karnak base.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSilk Spectre and Nite-Owl leave as New York City is decimated. Jon leaves Earth to enlighten himself, maybe create some life of his own.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYears later, Silk Spectre and Nite-Owl have gone incognito and changed their names. They visit her mother, now elderly. It is important to note that she kisses the Comedian's picture, which relays the fact that the Comedian was not entirely bad. Perhaps she even had feelings for him.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFurthermore, a reporter known as Seymour stumbles on Rorshach's journal that he left in the crank file. His boss is yelling at him to find anything to send to the press.
