However, killing Spider-Man was merely the first step in making his victory complete. In order to absorb the essence of his foe, Kraven immerses himself in a room full of spiders and begins to eat them by the handful. Next comes the final phase of his victory; showing that he is greater than his foe by replacing him. Kraven, driven by madness, becomes Spider-Man and sets out around the city.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMeanwhile, Peter Parker is very late and his new bride, Mary Jane, is getting more worried by the second. She decides sitting around isn't helping and sets out to find him. However, she ends up harassed by a couple of goons but fortunately, Spider-Kraven shows up. Mary Jane instantly recognizes that this man is not her husband by the way he brutally dispatches the offenders and sets out to find out who the imposter is and what happened to the real one.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFailing to find a lead through Peter's friends, MJ goes to try Spidey's...namely the Human Torch. Torch checks up on her claims of an imposter and finds that no way could the man he know put over two dozen men in the hospital, criminals or no. He calls in help from Captain America and Daredevil and they set out to try and find \"Spider-Man\".\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eJ. Jonah Jameson, however, is enjoying Spidey's sudden personality shift and using it to advance his crusade against so-called costumed heroes. At the same time, each of the three heroes manages to catch up to Spidey by themselves. After a quick fight, they all realize that with all certainty that MJ's claim was on the money and they have an imposter on their hands. With this revelation comes a need for more information, and thus MJ reveals to the heroes her husband's identity.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSometime later, JJJ tries to hail a taxi in the wrong spot as he's assaulted by Vermin. Vermin had been dragging people into the sewer for some time to a grisly fate, getting him dubbed the \"Cannibal Killer\", and it looks like it's Jolly Jonah's turn. Except Spider-Kraven intervenes and engages Vermin just as Cap, Torch and DD happen by. The heroes drive Kraven off. Leaving DD to take Jonah to a hospital, Torch and Cap trail him back to his estate where they take him down finally and find Spidey's corpse.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eKraven incarcerated, the heroes converge on the Parkers' apartment to tell MJ the bad news. She takes it as well as can be expected. Feeling as though it was owed her, MJ decides to tell May everything, including Peter's secret. May, of course, refuses to believe her and casts MJ out. At Peter's funeral, MJ decides the best gift for her husband would be to tell the world he was Spider-Man and get him the credit he denied himself for so long.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHaving the Torch set up a press conference, MJ begins her announcement only to be interrupted by Jonah, bandaged up with crutches. He claims her statements are false, her being brainwashed by the three heroes with her as part of a cover-up of their true natures. Jonah attacks Torch with a crutch and gets hurt in the process, and the media spins it as if he attacked Jonah. This only fuels his anti-costume campaign and eventually forces the government to disband all super groups until an investigation is conducted. The rest of the Fantastic Four, brought to observe the proceedings by Uatu the Watcher, were set to get revenge for their slain comrade when Uatu quickly transports them back to Earth. A few million light-years distance was not enough to quell their bloodlust, and the FF commandeered a Skrull saucer they had impounded on a previous adventure as well as Annihilus' Cosmic Control Rod. They took off for the Shi'ar Throneworld for their vengeance.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMeanwhile, Gladiator of the Shi'ar imperial guard was questioning Lilandra's decision, earning him an indefinite leave of absence from the planet. As his shuttle took off, Lilandra was alerted to the FF's ship entering their space. A ship flies out to meet them, but is quickly dispatched by the Human Torch while the Invisible Woman protected their own ship with her force fields.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSuddenly, the odds did not look in their favor as a good number of the Imperial Guard entered the fray. Sue took the Control Rod and placed it within the saucer's weapon systems. The combination created a blast so powerful it completely obliterated the Shi'ar planet. The FF return home, more depressed than when they left. Now not only have they lost a friend, but had unintentionally committed mass genocide.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eGladiator, the only survivor of the planet as well as the only witness to its destruction, called the delegate council to order once again to decide on the best retaliation for this transgression. Past tensions aside, now members of various alien races feared that they could have easily been the target...or next! This fear led to the unanimous decision to destroy Earth. However, another scheme is afoot. A Skrull had posed as a Kree in order to steal a device known as the Omni-Wave Projector. When used properly, it would project a virus between all the ships of the assembled attack fleet and destroy them all, with the blame falling on Earth; which coincidentally the Skrulls would claim as their new Throneworld in the aftermath.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOn Earth, the FF hold a press conference to confess their sins to the world while alerting them to the possible event of a retaliation on the whole planet. The United Nations convenes and decides to place the command of all the world's armed forces with SHIELD, or more specifically Colonel Nick Fury, with additional help from the Avengers and other heroes in order to combat the alien threat.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe FF get some sage advice from little Franklin, Reed and Sue's son, who ponders why they don't try an apology. Deciding to try and talk to the alien armada before they reach Earth, the FF steal the UN confiscated Skrull saucer and take off back for space. On the way, however, they detected another Skrull ship in the area. Originally thinking it to be a glitch, they were set to bypass it until they found the actual ship and discovered its possession of the Omni-Wave. Remembering the tales from the Avengers about it from the Kree\/Skrull war, the FF decide they're up to no good and prepare to stop them.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe armada drew ever closer and time was quickly running out. In a last-ditch effort, the FF attacked the Omni-Wave itself and destroyed it as well as the ship. The armada confronted the Earth but put their fears at ease when they conveyed they had received transmissions from the FF about the Skrulls' treachery and how they died to save the entire fleet. Gladiator offered Earth a chance to join in a new collective of the intelligent races across the cosmos to begin a new era of friendship and brotherhood.
